The Vayus: Vyana Vayu
Vyana Vayu or the omnipresent wind, will literally wrap up our studies on what is prana and how it is subdivided. In brief summary our prana vayu is the in and upward moving energy. Our apana vayu is the down and outward moving energy. Our samana vayu is the swirling consolidating energy. Our udana vayu is the circular, ascending moving energy and finally, our vyana vayu is an all encompassing, all pervasive energy. If Samana was our personal assistant, then vyana is our HR department and supports our muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems. Vyana prana is not located or associated with one specific area of the body, but with our entire being. It is responsible for how we operate and also how we connect physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Vyana vayu is the super glue that connects all of our many aspects together, so when imbalanced we might struggle literally with balance wether that be standing on one foot or finding peace between and within home, work, relationships, and our own selves. Some words that might describe this imbalance could be: disjointed, separate, divided, uncoordinated, mis-aligned, spacey, clumsy, or not enough. Some words that might describe vyana vayu when balanced would be: balanced, aligned, grounded, connected, whole, united, in-flow, coordinated, undivided, and enough.
We are such amazing creatures with innate intelligence that does its damndest to not only keep us alive, but to support our ability to thrive. This intelligence keeps all of our systems running smoothly and in communication with one another all day every day. It’s kind of comical to think that while our innate intelligence is doing all of that simultaneously, we consciously struggle to simply (of course it’s not so simple) to communicate our truths to our loved ones. We can easily notice this phenomenon when something goes awry, like when we have a cold or stub our toe. These small inconveniences are a powerful reminder of all that is going right for us, all of the time.
The A in yoga is relegated to developing the Awareness, Authenticity, and Agency, to assist our prana of which is working tirelessly for our well being. When we do things like breathe intentionally, move our bodies mindfully and consistently, have loving and kind communications with self and others, and desire to expand our consciousness beyond its current limitations, we promote our prana to optimal ranks and gift ourselves the possibility of any possibility this very, day.
Thank you beautiful human,

Andrea Dawn
